Universities in Austria have a great variety of educational programmes and sizes. The diverse academic courses offered by the traditional universities in Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Graz, and Klagenfurt include all academic disciplines such as humanities, social and economic sciences, law, natural sciences, medicine, mining sciences, technology, veterinary medicine, and applied life sciences. The universities promote interdisciplinary academic research, which is a great way to structure a student’s mind.

Why Study at Universities in Austria?

The education system of Austrian universities is recognised across the world. Several institutes hold high positions in international university rankings making the country an excellent choice for studying abroad. Like other public universities in the European Union, Austrian universities are also free for EU students. Non-EU students need to pay nominal tuition fees of about 1,500 Euros at Austrian universities compared to the rest of Europe.

There are many universities in Vienna, with the University of Vienna being the oldest institute in the German-speaking region. The university was established in 1365 and is associated with multiple Nobel Prize awardees. More than 200 different courses are offered by the University of Vienna, many of which are provided in English. 

Other good universities include Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, University of Graz, University of Innsbruck, University of Salzburg, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, and Central European University (CEU).

Eligibility Criteria

For admission in bachelor’s degree courses, students holding EU/EEA school leaving certificates to require a copy of their passport, a secondary school leaving certificate, and a German language proficiency certificate. 

Students not having an EU/EEA certificate requires an equivalent secondary school leaving certificate and the other documents mentioned for the EU students. For master’s degree courses, a successful 6-semester completion certificate for a relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 180 ECTS is required.
