Universities in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Kaohsiung city, a special municipality located in southern Taiwan, is a prime example of a modern cosmopolis. Classified as a “Gamma” level global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, it houses some of the most prominent industries of Taiwan, such as manufacturing, steel-making, oil refining, freight transport and shipbuilding. The Port of Kaohsiung is the largest and busiest harbour in Taiwan. 

Home to approximately 2.77 million people, it is southern Taiwan’s cultural and educational hub. Top University in Kaohsiung

The National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) was established in 2000 in tandem with the government’s industrial policy. NUK is strategically located amongst several Science, Industrial, Software Parks and public transportation hubs giving it a unique geographical advantage in research and academia-industry development. 

According to a survey conducted by the Global Views Monthly in 2012, NUK ranked eighth in Taiwan in terms of quantity of research and academia-industry outputs. In 2015, NUK also ranked third in the survey of “2015 Enterprises most- favoured universities in Kaohsiung and Pingtung area” conducted by China Times Weekly. 

Currently, NUK offers 21 undergraduate programs, 23 master programs, seven in-service master programs, 6 EMBA programs, and 3 PhD programs in several disciplines like Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, to name a few. Supported by an enthusiastic and energetic teaching faculty of whom 95% hold PhD degrees and abundant academic experience. In terms of facilities, NUK was appointed as the “Model Green University” by the Ministry of Education in 2009 and was also awarded as the “Wetlands of National Importance” by the Ministry of  Interior in 2011.

Eligibility Criteria

Strong proficiency in the English language is essential for admission into universities in Taiwan. A minimum IELTS score of 6 is a must. International applicants of bachelor and master programs (except IMBA and ASM full English program) must pass the Chinese placement test at NUK’s Language Center before enrollment. 

Documents required are as follows: Online Application form, photographs, declaration of financial support, IELTS or TOEFL certificate, visa and passport.
