Mataram is the capital and largest city of Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province on Lombok island. It hosts most universities as it is the main centre of education. Many international students have chosen Mataram as their study destination due to its academic reputation and low tuition fees.

Mataram hosts around five universities. Mataram University is a public university established in 1962. According to the Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities, it is one of the city’s top higher education institutions ranking 32 in Indonesia. It has ten faculties that offer about 60 study programs focused on agriculture, animal husbandry, and human development. The students here are eligible for all Mataram University’s facilities, such as accommodation, sports facilities, health services, student activity unit, laboratories, library, etc.

Another well-ranked private higher education institution in the city is the Mahasaraswati University of Mataram. Established in 1981, it has several study programs with excellent academic facilities. With an outstanding academic record, the university is ranked 1094 in the country according to the Webometrics Ranking of Web 2022. The student facilities provided by the institution include financial aid, administrative facilities, sports facilities, library, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

Some criteria may differ from institute to institute, like admission process, previous academic marks, entrance exams, etc. However, student visas and language certificates are the same for each university. 

You can obtain a student visa to Indonesia by submitting documents like your passport, passport size photographs, financial statements, letters of recommendation, previous education certificates, etc., at a designated Indonesian embassy. 

For language proof, you can submit a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate with qualifying marks to confirm your English language proficiency.
