Universities in Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico

What makes Oaxaca de Juarez a Center of Higher Studies?

Oaxaca is home to many public as well as private universities. Students can choose from a wide range of courses. There are about 12 universities that offer courses in more than 133 programs. The city is ranked one of the most student-friendly cities in Latin America. 

Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca (UABJO) is the oldest as well as the highest ranked university in the city. Founded in 1827, UABJO has a long tradition of imparting education and values to the masses. The most notable alumni of the university include Benito Juarez, after whom the city and the university are named. 

The other prominent universities of the city include Oaxaca Institute of Technology, University of the Isthmus, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

Students need to apply directly through the admission department of the university. The eligibility for the bachelor programs is a senior secondary school certificate; for post-graduation, a bachelor degree; and a postgraduate degree for the doctoral programs. 

The universities conduct an entrance exam before admission. Students need to have academic transcripts of the previous three years duly signed by the institute, two letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, a resume, and a passport. 

The international students need to prove their Spanish or English proficiency based on the language their chosen course is offered in. A student visa valid throughout the course is also a prerequisite for admission. They can apply through academic exchange programs established by universities with various institutes across the continents.
