Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), India, is one of the most scenic places in the world. Srinagar has a few good universities to study at. Along with the picturesque valley, India is also an affordable country for students making it a good study location.

Why Study at Universities in Srinagar, India?

There are five major universities in Srinagar. These are the University of Kashmir, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Central University of Kashmir, and the Cluster University of Srinagar.

The University of Kashmir, also known as Kashmir University (KU), was founded in 1948. KU offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes in several disciplines, including humanities, education, business and management studies, natural sciences, applied sciences and technology, law, medicine, engineering, and many more. There are 21 constituent and 45 affiliated colleges under KU.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir was established in 1982. The university’s focus lies in achieving advancement in the agricultural segment in J&K.

Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is the only medical institution in J&K. The university comprises the campus, main hospital, maternity hospital, state cancer institute, nursing college, and paramedical college.

Central University of Kashmir (CUKmr) was established in 2009. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes in arts, law, natural and applied sciences, education, and commerce.

Cluster University of Srinagar (C-U, CUS) is a group of five colleges in Srinagar, including Sri Pratap College, Amar Singh College, Bemina and the Institute of Advanced Studies Education, Government College for Women, and Government Degree College.

Eligibility Criteria

International students applying for universities in Srinagar must meet the eligibility criteria for choosing their universities before applying for a student visa. To get admission to a university, students need to sit for entrance tests organised by the institution and furnish the necessary documents. A student is selected based on their performance in the test.
