Zarqa is the second most populous city located in the northeast of Jordan. It hosts some of the best-ranked higher educational institutions, including three universities. The universities offer about 300 study programs with cutting-edge education facilities.

Two of the three universities fall in Jordan’s top 10 universities list. The largest university in Zarqa is Hashemite University. It is a renowned public university established in 1991. The university has 15 faculties that offer more than 90 study programs to national and international students. Being one of the top 10 universities in the country, HU is a globally recognised institution of higher education. It is ranked #1201+ according to the World University Rankings 2022 and 401+ in the Young University Rankings 2022.

Another well-reputed university in the city is Zarqa University. It was established in 1994 and has grown into one of the leading universities in Jordan. It has 13 faculties that offer a range of study programs, including language and cultural education. Most of its programs are taught in English, making learning easier for international students. The university also facilitates foreign student exchange programs for its students in partnership with many other international universities worldwide.

Eligibility Criteria

First and foremost, international students will need a Jordanian Student Visa to study at the universities of Zarqa. You can obtain a visa at a specified Jordanian embassy by submitting a filled-out visa form, valid passport, education certificate, invitation letter from the university, financial proof, passport size photographs, etc. However, some countries are exempted from student visas, including UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, Syria, etc. 

A language proficiency certificate is also required to study in the city. Both TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores are accepted here. If you do not have any of these, you can also sit for the National Exam of the English Language, which the Jordan Ministry of Higher Education conducts.
